Ah Montreal, the city of festivals, poutine, and apartment buildings with NO AIR CONDITIONING. With places that usually offer free AC like malls and libraries are closed due to COVID-19, it can be hard to find relief from the Montreal heat. You can only stand with your head in the freezer for so long before your pizza has cooked itself and Hydro-Quebec has left you eight voicemails. So how do you beat the Montreal heat?
1. Sit in Front of a Window or Fan
For those who have fans, use them. They are LIFE CHANGING. For those of you who don’t have fans, buy one. Seriously, invest in a fan. If, for some reason, you refuse to buy a fan, you could always sit in front of an open window or outside and try to catch a cool breeze.
2. Ice Packs
This one is so simple that I always forget about it. If you’re looking for a quick cool down, grab an ice pack from the freezer and put it on your forehead or the back of your neck. If you don’t have an ice pack, fill up a plastic bag with ice cubes. You could even throw a bag of water into the freezer overnight to use the next day.
3. Freeze Your Sheets
Okay, so I saw this trick on a post from Greatist blog and thought it was kind of weird. Then, I thought about it again and I really want to try it. Basically, you put your bed sheets in the freezer a couple of minutes before bed. That way, they’re cool to the touch. Not a permanent solution but it’ll surely help you fall asleep faster.
4. Close Your Blinds
Yes, I know it’s beautiful out. Of course, we all want natural light. Yes, I know we just got out of a dark, dark winter. Close. Your. Blinds. Even just halfway. Sun = Heat. Less sun = Less heat. I’m no mathematician but those numbers make sense to me.
5. Lose Some Layers
Hey, we’re all stuck at home anyway. Why not let loose a little and lose some extra layers?
6. Drink Water
It’s always important to stay hydrated but especially when it’s hot out. Drinking plenty of water will help keep your body temperature down. Just make sure you have a bathroom close by.
7. Have Some Ice Cream
We are in pandemic times. Treat yourself. It’ll cool you down while it lasts. Stay safe everybody!
8. Tips if you do exercises
If you do sport you have to be careful, because no matter how important it may seem, the heat can affect your health. One of the things that stands out the most in recent years is your skin, which can easily burn out due to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. But the most important thing is to follow the advice of the moment and the people around you.
We consider that doing sports during the summer includes any activity that makes you move and exercise. So we also consider moving a sport. Well, at least exercise does.
