What does MoveMate provide?

MoveMate connects you with local movers (“Mates”) who will help you move your belongings from Point A to Point B. Our Mates will come to your pick-up location, load your belongings into the Mates’ trucks and transport them to your destination. They use various vehicles including cargo vans, sprinter vans, and box trucks that will be assigned to you based on your needs.

Can I make a long-distance move with MoveMate?

Yes. MoveMate offers long-distance moves if your move starts or ends in Montreal. The pricing will be different from a standard move. You can request your quote in the chat.

What if I think that I should not be charged for the extra fees?

If you are asked to pay extra fees, and you don’t think it is warranted, chat with us or send us an email at support@movemate.io with your detailed claim and a representative will help solve the issue. We also give a call to each of our customers after the move to learn more about your experience and how we can improve your future experience. It’s crucial for us at MoveMate to make your move as simple and pleasant as possible.

What if my items are damaged during a move?

If any item is damaged during the time frame of a move, please ensure that you have taken a picture of it. You have 48 hours after the move to report the damage to us if no solution is found with the Mate. If the damage is proven to have occurred during the move, we will work with you and our Mate to address the issue. Our Mates are professional movers who hired by MoveMate and are trained in the best and safest methods to move your items safely. Unfortunately, accidents do happen sometimes.

What do you recommend that I do to book the move?

At MoveMate, we recommend that you list all the items you require to be moved to avoid paying extra fees. Also, make sure to protect your belongings appropriately to ensure that the move goes smoothly!

Does MoveMate offer insurance for the move?

In 90% of cases, your current renter or home liability insurance covers for any damages to your belongings during your move. However, if something were to break and it’s deemed to be the mate’s fault, then we would compensate.

Can I book for the truck only (no movers/mates)?

Unfortunately, we do not provide only the truck. All of our services include the labour. In situations like this, we recommend that you book for 1 Mate with a truck.

Do you have a storage solution?

We do not offer storage solutions. We just do the moving. If you need to store your items, please visit our partners MTL Mini Storage at https://montrealministorage.com/en/

Can I ride along with my driver?

Absolutely! You just need to check the “ride along” option when booking and meet the Mate at the pickup location. There will be an additional charge of $15. However, this option is only available if the booking is for one mate.

How can I add multiple pickup and delivery addresses?

Currently, you cannot add multiple pickup and delivery addresses while you are booking, therefore you will need to leave it in the comments.

What is your Covid-19 Policy?

Here at MoveMate, we are committed to doing our part in limiting the spread of Covid-19!

Our Mates will follow the current government mandates at any given time.

How do you calculate the estimated price of my booking?

MoveMate uses the addresses (accessibility included) and the total cubic feet of your items to calculate the real-time estimated price of your booking! In cases of last minute bookings, holidays, and rush periods, there is an automatic increase in our flat rates that will already be reflected in your estimated total.

What do you mean by real time estimates?

This one is pretty cool! When you are going through the different steps of the booking process, you will be able to see an estimated price auto-populating in the top right hand corner of the screen!

How far in advance should I be booking?

In an ideal situation, MoveMate would appreciate at least a minimum of 48-72 hours between when you book and the actual date of your booking. However, we still do our best to review and assign any last minute bookings that are placed. In the event that we are unable to service your requested time/date, our support team will contact you to discuss possible options.

*Long-distance requests should be placed at a minimum of 72 hours only as they require significantly more preparation!*

Am I able to book for Mates only?

Yes! MoveMate welcomes bookings that require Mates only, no problem. This option is available on your summary page when completing your booking. 

Can I add multiple addresses?

Yes, MoveMate is able to accept bookings with more than 2 addresses included and we are working on improving our booking platform to include this within your booking directly! For now, additional addresses must be included within the ‘notes’ section on your booking summary page - our support team will contact you within a couple of hours to provide you with a new estimated price.

There is a 24 hour grace period to cancel your booking with no fees associated if you do not like your new estimated total.

Do you have a minimum booking size requirement?

No, MoveMate will accept bookings of all sizes. Please keep in mind that in some cases, if a booking is estimated to take only 1 hour, it may be extremely difficult for us to assign a team that is willing to perform it and we would have no choice but to cancel (at no additional cost to you).

What times do you not move?

There are items that we are unfortunately unable to move/deliver, including but not limited to: items exceeding 300lbs, grand or baby grand pianos, upright pianos, pallets with items stocked up, home renovation supplies such as flooring, vehicles/motorcycles, hazardous objects, and flammable objects. Please feel free to chat with us today to confirm if your item in question is not listed above!

Do you accept long-distance booking requests?

MoveMates does in fact accept long-distance booking requests as long as your booking starts or end in Montreal. Pricing is different from our regular bookings and because of this, you are required to fill our the following form:

Do you assemble or disassemble furniture?

Yes, MoveMate provides these services. This feature has not yet been integrated into the booking platform so you would need to include it in the ‘notes’ section of your booking, found 

on your summary page. Our pricing ranges from $25 to $65 per item requiring assembly or disassembly. A more detailed breakdown of the pricing is as follows:

Do you mount or dismount furniture?

Unfortunately, MoveMate does not provide the add-on service of mounting or dismounting furniture such as TVs. You are always welcome to include your request in the notes section of your booking and if you are able to make it work, we would love to - there are, however, no guarantees.

Who/What is MoveMate?

MoveMate is an online tech company aimed to make moving and delivery services as simple as ordering pizza! Once you submit a booking with your move or delivery details, we take care of the rest for you by reviewing the details you provide and sending the most qualified team of Mates for the job.

Am I able to book a truck only?

Unfortunately, MoveMate is not a rental truck company and therefore we do not have trucks available for rent. The closest option to this would be booking a truck with 1 Mate only! 

Are you for residential moves only?

No - MoveMate offers moving and delivery services to anyone in need of transporting an item from one location to another. Bought furniture at a store that had insane shipping prices, or something from Kijiji that’s too big to carry home by yourself? We can help!

Do you dispose of old furniture/appliances?

MoveMate can definitely help you with disposing of your old furniture or appliances! We kindly ask that you include this request in the notes section of your booking, found on your summary page. Please note that you may be subject to additional charges depending on the details of your request.

Do you sell boxes and offer packing services?

Yes to both! MoveMates offers medium boxes for $4 (before tax) a piece and can also include packing services (please chat with us today to find out more about our pricing). Note: these services do not need to be purchased together. If you are opting for packing services only, please be aware that you will be responsible for providing tape/packing tools as well. Can I ride along with my driver?

Does MoveMate offer insurance? What if there are damages?

For damages that are very clearly at the fault of our Mates, please ensure you take a photo and submit it to our support team within 48 hours to open a damages claim. If the damage is proven to have occurred during the move, we will work with you and our Mate to address the issue. Our Mates are professional movers who are involved with MoveMate and are trained in the best and safest methods to move your items safely. Unfortunately, accidents do happen at times.

How can I pay for my move?

We currently accept Visa and MasterCard credit cards, Visa Debit cards and PayPal payments. Please note that without providing a valid credit card/paypal account, you will be unable to place a booking. 

Can I tip? Who gets it?

MoveMate has recently integrated the tipping feature into our booking platform so that you are able to include it with your booking’s payment! Any and all tips go directly to our Mates only. 

Is a deposit required?

Yes, MoveMate requires a deposit equal to 20% of your booking estimate which is collected 24 hours after you place a booking. This deposit is collected from the method of payment provided during booking.

What is your cancellation policy?

Once a booking is placed, you have 24 hours to cancel and pay no penalties. If you cancel anytime after the first 24 hours, you will lose your deposit which is equal to 20% of your booking total. Cancellations made within the 48 hour mark of the booking date/time will be charged the remaining 80% of the booking, no exceptions.

All last minute booking - bookings placed 48 hours or less before the desired time and date - are charged the full 100% of the booking estimate. No exceptions.

What if I have to cancel due to the weather?

In cases of inclement weather, bookings will be rescheduled at no extra cost. These cases include: fresh snowfall (equal to or greater than 20cm), icy rain, black ice due to very low temperatures, or temperatures below -25℃. Ultimately, however, it is up to the discretion of MoveMate and MoveMate only to determine if bookings require rescheduling. 

Can I change my booking?

MoveMate will always do its best to accommodate any requested changes to a booking. However, please note that there will also be extra charges, equivalent to 20% of the total cost, for any modifications to the reservation made 24 hours after booking. 

What if I end up having less items than originally listed?

We ask that you inform us of any items removed from your booking list at least 48 hours prior to your booking date/time so that we can make the necessary price adjustments to your booking if it's applicable. If you don’t inform us before the 48 hour mark, there will be 0 adjustments made, no exceptions. 

Are there any hidden fees or transaction costs when booking through MoveMate?

It should be noted that the agreed upon price + estimated time are entirely dependent on and reflective of the information you provide during the booking process. This does mean that in cases where there are undisclosed items, there will also be associated penalty fees. In addition to undisclosed items, it is of utmost importance that you remember to book elevators and save parking spots to avoid any overtime charges.

Guidelines

To ensure a smooth booking with no unnecessary challenges, please:

  • Have your belongings packed before our Mates arrive.
  • Indicate which boxes are fragile and how they should be orientated.
  • Separate your belongings into respective categories; furniture, boxes (by size if applicable), and smaller items. The larger items of each category should be placed closer towards the door.
  • Empty all furniture drawers and closet cabinets, plus secure the doors closed with tape. 
  • Make sure the path to the door and to the street are clear of small items or obstacles.
Terms


The price estimate is based on the specific details you provide during the booking process. Any changes to your booking or inaccurate/misrepresented information may lead to extra charges. 

For bookings including an address with elevator accessibility, it is your responsibility to reserve your building elevator for the appropriate length of time. Failure to reserve your building elevator will result in a penalty fee determined by the overtime accumulated due to our Mates waiting around/sharing the elevator with other building residents.

Secure parking for our truck in areas where there is no space to double park. Our trucks require a parking space of about 2 to 3 car lengths. Some examples of how you can accomplish this are; by using pylons, by parking your own vehicles in place of ours, or by asking neighbours to use their parking spaces. Failure to secure parking may result in time delays and ultimately, incur overtime charges. 

If you have selected the ride along option, you must ensure you are following all COVID-19 safety regulations; wear your mask at all times, minimize the amount of surfaces you touch, and make sure to sanitize/wash your hands before and after. Failure to comply with these regulations gives our Mate the right to deny your ride. 

A non-refundable deposit equivalent to 20% of your booking estimate will be charged 24 hours after you place your booking. This is completed via the payment information you provide in the next steps. The remaining 80% balance is authorized 48 hours prior to your booking date/time.
